The format of this one-day workshop is different from industry conferences in that it is not a collection of individual presentations. Instead it is an integrated agenda that is designed to address the central question of, 'given my company's situation, what portfolio management approach will best serve our needs?' A series of topics throughout the day will cover:

• Historical context from Life Sciences as well as other industries as to how portfolio management has adapted to meet evolving needs.

• Overviews of different approaches to portfolio management currently used by leading pharmaceutical and biotech companies, including discussion of what motivates their choices and the key dimensions of choice enabling adaptation to specific company situations.

• Case studies from industry executives highlighting best practices within the context of their chosen approaches.

• Discussion of challenges and critical success factors in implementing change, with case examples of successes and failures.

There are many different approaches to portfolio management that are effectively being deployed in the pharmaceutical industry today. What has driven this set of different approaches? How have companies employed portfolio management to help them better meet their challenges? Where have these different approaches succeeded and failed? And most importantly, how do companies determine which approach is best for them?
