5:30 - 8:30 pm Maximizing the Potential of Academic-Industry Partnerships: Lessons for Scientific Innovation, Creative Partnership Models, and Systematic Management

Drug development has approached a critical junction where the escalating costs of R&D combined with an urgent need for the delivery of novel, transformative therapies has motivated developers to harness the ground-breaking discoveries and basic research derived from academic medical centers, by forging strategic partnerships to fill development pipelines. With this increase in the academic-industry collaboration, stakeholders require innovative strategies to mitigate common challenges of establishing appropriate deal structures for cultivating collaborative environments; data and resource sharing; intellectual property rights; conflicts in culture; mutual understanding of goals, responsibilities and governance; and managing academic partnerships as integral components to industry portfolios. This workshop will showcase best practices from a series of academic and industry alliance leaders to discuss opportunities for refining academic-industry partnerships to maximize their inherent potential.
